capacitive body II by A. Muxel and M. Hesselmeier
The installation capacitive body II by Andreas Muxel and Martin Hesselmeier is a reactive light installation that provides visual feedback of the aural activity of the surrounding urban environment. The modular light system that reacts to the sound of its environment consists of custom built modules with an electroluminescent light wire linked to a piezoelectric sensor and a microcontroller. Through its modular setup it can easily be adapted to various urban spaces. Here is more information on the previous version, capacative body.
As the previous version of capacative body was exclusively running on several microcontroller-based modules (each having its own simple program logic) for the new version a custom software/hardware system was developed to control all el-wires from one main computer via DMX. This enables to adabt the work to new spaces much easier and the system is able to control up to 400 meter of el-wire. All the needed hardware is built into a 19” rack together with a small computer running a custom software.
